Charles Ingalls and his family visited his older brother Peter and his family living around South Troy MN. On 27th August 1876, little Freddie, Charles’ and Caroline’s only son, died aged nearly 10 months. A few weeks later they left the area for Burr Oak Iowa, USA. Freddie was buried locally but no one knows where. Though the Little House books presented an idyllic view of pioneer life, the reality faced by the Ingalls family was often pretty different. In fact, like so many of their contemporaries on the American frontier, they had to deal with serious poverty. Young Laura understood her family's situation, according to Prairie Fires by Caroline Fraser. Charles Fredrick Ingalls was born circa 10 January 1837 in Cuba, Allegany County, New York, United States to Lansford Whiting Ingalls (1812-1896) and Laura Louise Colby (1810-1883) and died circa 8 June 1902 in De Smet, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, United States of Heart trouble, cardiovascular disease.
